The $1,000,000 Mistake
How I Discovered the Hidden Insurance Gaps That Are Costing Business Owners Everything
-
I never planned on working in insurance.
I started in the restaurant industry while in college, then jumped into entrepreneurship after graduating with a degree in communications. I poured everything I had into my business—only to watch it fail. That experience taught me a hard lesson about financial risk and protection.
When I entered the insurance industry, I quickly realized most business owners believed having a policy meant they were fully covered. But in reality, they had no idea what gaps existed until it was too late.
I left sales to work on the other side of the claims process in industrial hygiene. That’s when I saw the true cost of being underinsured—and I knew I had a responsibility to help business owners protect what they've worked so hard to build.
-
I couldn’t shake the feeling that I had a responsibility to do more. I knew firsthand how overwhelming running a business could be. I also knew how insurance carriers thought, how policies were written, and where the biggest gaps were hiding. I wanted to bridge that gap—helping business owners truly understand their risks and build policies that actually protected them.
The biggest challenge? Business owners assumed all policies were the same. Many thought, "If I have insurance, I’m covered." They had no idea about exclusions, coverage limits, or industry-specific risks.
I felt a moral obligation to educate my clients. I couldn’t stand the thought of someone losing everything simply because they weren’t aware of what their policy didn’t cover.
-
The breaking point for me was watching businesses get financially wrecked time and time again—not because they didn’t have insurance, but because they had the wrong insurance. A restaurant that didn’t have business interruption coverage and couldn’t recover after a fire. A contractor whose policy excluded a major part of his work. A manufacturer who had to pay out of pocket for a liability claim that he assumed was covered.
I knew I couldn’t keep quiet anymore. I had to do something to change this.
-
I decided to create a mastermind group—a space where business professionals could talk about policy nightmares, share wins, and educate each other. I wanted to prevent businesses from being blindsided by out-of-pocket expenses. I would use my knowledge to go beyond just selling policies—I’d help business owners understand their coverage so they could make informed decisions.

I don’t just sell policies—I design protection plans.
I match businesses with the right carriers based on their industry, conduct on-site assessments to ensure accurate coverage, and break down policy limitations so there are no surprises. I’ve even created checklists and data-driven strategies to make sure my clients have all the information they need to make the best decisions for their businesses.
Now, I’m confident that my clients aren’t just insured—they’re protected. They know exactly what risks they face, what their policy covers, and what steps they can take to safeguard their business. I don’t just sell them the lowest-priced policy. I make sure they’re covered when it counts.
This journey started with me trying to find my own path. It ended with a mission—to make sure no business owner ever has to say, “I thought I was covered.”
